If the sun suddenly vanished, we wouldn't know for about 8.3 minutes - that's how long light takes to reach us. After that, it would get dark instantly. Not just night dark - pitch black.
Then It Gets Cold
Without the sun's energy, Earth would start cooling. Within a week, average temperatures would drop below zero. Within a year, it'd be minus 100 degrees. Everything would freeze!
